Kitchen Remodeling in Rural Hall and the Winston-Salem, NC Area
A kitchen remodel should do more than make the room look newer.
- Owner-Led on Every Project
- Free In-Home Estimates
- Most Estimates in 1 to 2 Days
It should improve how the space works, make everyday tasks easier, and create a kitchen that feels right for the home and the people who use it.
Carolina Custom Builds, LLC provides complete kitchen remodeling services for homeowners in Rural Hall, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, and surrounding Piedmont Triad communities. We work on substantial kitchen renovations, including complete gut remodels, cabinet installation, flooring, drywall, tile, layout updates, finish carpentry, and the coordination of plumbing and electrical work when those trades are needed.
Carolina Custom Builds is owned and operated by Zachary Westmoreland, who entered the trades at 18. He remains a hands-on working owner involved in estimating, planning, construction, project management, and communication. Zachary stays the primary point of contact and is usually present on the job throughout the project.
Complete Kitchen Remodeling
Carolina Custom Builds focuses on complete kitchen projects rather than isolated handyman repairs.
If you are planning to replace a single cabinet door, change one faucet, or complete one very small repair, the project may not be the right fit.
Our work is better suited to homeowners who want to make a meaningful improvement to the entire kitchen or complete a substantial portion of it.
A kitchen remodeling project may include:
- Complete kitchen demolition
- Framing and preparation
- Drywall installation and finishing
- Cabinet installation
- Custom cabinetry coordination
- Countertop coordination
- Kitchen islands
- Flooring installation
- Tile backsplashes
- Trim and finish carpentry
- Lighting updates
- Plumbing changes
- Electrical changes
- Appliance location adjustments
- Layout improvements
- Painting and final finishes
The exact scope depends on the existing kitchen and the homeowner’s plans. Some projects involve rebuilding the room from the framing forward. Others keep the general layout but replace the major finishes and features. Zachary can help determine which parts should remain and which should be replaced.
Full Kitchen Gut Renovations
A complete kitchen gut renovation may be the right choice when the room is outdated, damaged, poorly arranged, or no longer meets the needs of the household.
During a full renovation, the existing cabinets, countertops, flooring, drywall, and other finishes may be removed according to the approved scope. Once the room is opened, the condition of the walls, framing, plumbing, and electrical systems can be reviewed before new materials are installed.
A full renovation can improve storage, work areas, lighting, cabinet layout, and overall function. Carolina Custom Builds handles the main construction and finish work while coordinating qualified specialty contractors for plumbing and electrical work. The homeowner still has one main person to speak with throughout the project.
Cabinets and Kitchen Storage
Cabinets affect storage, appearance, movement through the room, and the location of appliances and work surfaces.
Carolina Custom Builds can install cabinets as part of a complete kitchen renovation and coordinate custom cabinetry when the project calls for it.
Shaker-style cabinets are currently popular with many homeowners in the area, but Zachary has worked on a broad range of projects and does not believe every customer wants the same style. Homes throughout Rural Hall and the surrounding Piedmont Triad include different ages, layouts, and architectural styles. Some homeowners prefer a clean, updated appearance, while others want a more traditional or rustic kitchen that fits the character of the home.
The goal is not to force one trendy look. It is to build a kitchen around the homeowner’s taste, practical needs, and budget.
Cabinet planning may include base and wall cabinets, pantry storage, island cabinets, drawer storage, appliance openings, trim, molding, and custom or semi-custom configurations. Zachary can also provide practical recommendations on products and finishes.
Kitchen Islands and Layout Improvements
A kitchen island can provide additional work space, storage, seating, or a central gathering area.
However, an island only works well when the room has enough space for comfortable movement around it.
During the in-home consultation, Zachary can review the room dimensions, current traffic flow, cabinet placement, appliance locations, and the homeowner’s goals. Some homeowners want an island for food preparation. Others want seating, storage, or space for a sink or appliance. These choices affect plumbing, electrical work, cabinetry, countertop size, and clearances.
Not every kitchen needs a major layout change. In some homes, keeping the general arrangement and improving cabinets, finishes, storage, and lighting may provide the best value. Carolina Custom Builds takes a practical approach rather than pushing changes that do not improve the room.
Flooring, Tile, and Finish Work
Flooring and tile help connect the different parts of the kitchen and give the room its finished appearance.
Carolina Custom Builds can install kitchen flooring and complete the related preparation required for the approved material. The right flooring depends on the existing subfloor, surrounding rooms, household activity, maintenance preferences, and budget.
Tile backsplashes may be simple and practical or designed as a focal point. Finish work can include drywall, trim, molding, paint preparation, and the details needed to bring the cabinets, counters, flooring, and walls together.
Plumbing and Electrical Coordination
Many kitchen remodels require plumbing or electrical changes.
A new sink location, additional lighting, moved appliances, new outlets, or an altered cabinet layout can affect the existing systems.
Carolina Custom Builds does not claim that every trade is performed by one in-house employee. Zachary coordinates specialty subcontractors for plumbing and electrical work when needed.
Instead of hiring separate contractors and managing the sequence alone, homeowners work primarily with Zachary while he coordinates the approved scope. A complete gut remodel with moved appliances or a new layout may require additional planning.
Help With Products, Finishes, and Planning
Most homeowners contact Carolina Custom Builds after they already have an idea of what they want.
They may have inspiration photos, a general layout, preferred materials, or formal plans.
Zachary can review those ideas and provide practical suggestions about products, finishes, and construction. For larger projects, drawings or additional planning may be needed.
Carolina Custom Builds is not presented as a full architectural design-build firm. The company’s strength is construction, remodeling, project management, and helping homeowners turn an existing idea into a completed space.
You do not need to have every finish selected before the first call. The consultation can help identify the decisions that must be made before the work is scheduled.
Previous Kitchen Remodeling Experience
Zachary has completed kitchen projects with a wide range of styles and scopes.
His project photos show that the work is not limited to one cabinet color, one layout, or one type of home.
His experience includes complete kitchen gutting, cabinet installation, drywall, flooring, finish work, and the coordination of countertops, plumbing, and electrical needs.
This variety is valuable in the Rural Hall and Winston-Salem area because the housing stock is not uniform. Some homes are newer and need functional updates. Others have older kitchens that require more extensive demolition and preparation.
An Owner-Led Remodeling Experience
Zachary describes himself as the working contractor, estimator, project manager, and owner.
He is normally on the job and available to answer questions during construction.
This direct involvement matters during a kitchen remodel because the room is central to daily life. Homeowners want to know what will happen next, which parts of the kitchen will be unavailable, when specialty trades are arriving, and whether a concern has been addressed.
Communication and punctuality are two of the qualities homeowners mention most often about working with Zachary. He would rather communicate too much than leave a customer uncertain.
Customers can reach him by phone, text, email, or direct jobsite conversations. Homeowners are encouraged to ask questions throughout the project.
Zachary also understands that a kitchen remodel is invasive. His goal is to complete the project efficiently and create as little unnecessary stress as possible while still giving the work the attention it requires.
What Homeowners Can Expect
Homeowners often worry about hiring a contractor and then not knowing who is responsible for the project.
With Carolina Custom Builds, Zachary remains directly accountable for the work and communication.
Zachary believes that if he says he is going to do something, he should follow through. He also understands that homeowners need realistic information, especially when material costs, specialty trades, or existing conditions affect the project.
The goal is not to promise that every kitchen can be completed immediately or within a fixed budget before it has been inspected. The goal is to provide a straightforward process and a clear understanding of what the renovation will require.
The qualities customers regularly appreciate include:
- Clear and frequent communication
- Punctuality
- Direct access to the owner
- Practical recommendations
- One main point of contact
- Respect for the homeowner and property
- Efficient project management
- Coordination of specialty trades
- Honest discussions about the scope
Preparing for Your Kitchen Remodel
Before the in-home consultation, it can be helpful to think about how you currently use the kitchen and what causes the most frustration.
Consider questions such as:
- Do you need more cabinet or pantry storage?
- Is there enough counter space?
- Does the current layout feel crowded?
- Would an island improve the room?
- Are appliances located where they are easy to use?
- Is the kitchen too dark?
- Is the flooring worn or difficult to maintain?
- Do you want to keep the same general layout?
- Are there inspiration photos or styles you like?
- Are there parts of the existing kitchen you want to preserve?
You do not need to have every answer before contacting Carolina Custom Builds. These questions simply help Zachary understand what matters most to your household and which improvements should receive the most attention.
Our Kitchen Remodeling Process
The process begins with a brief phone conversation or website inquiry. Zachary will ask about the project location, general scope, existing kitchen, and the changes the homeowner is considering.
The next step is a free in-home estimate. Kitchen remodeling cannot be priced accurately from a few photos. Zachary needs to inspect the room, review existing conditions, take measurements, discuss materials, and identify whether other trades or plans may be required.
After the visit, he prepares a written estimate. Approximately 80 percent of his estimates are completed within one to two business days. A large kitchen renovation may take longer if cabinet pricing, countertops, plans, plumbing, electrical work, or other trade estimates must be confirmed.
Once the project is approved, the materials, scope, trade coordination, and schedule are finalized. Zachary remains directly involved throughout construction and keeps the homeowner informed as work progresses.
At completion, the kitchen is reviewed with the homeowner and final questions or agreed-upon items are addressed.

+1 336-712-6827“Zach is great. Carolina Custom Builds is our go-to for most of our home projects. They really can do it all. Very well priced. They do the best quality work. Zach came out and installed tile in my bathroom. He uninstalled the tub, sink, and toilet to tile behind them, then replaced them without issue. This was a multiday project and he cleaned up at the end of each day and even installed the toilet back just so we can use each night while he was tiling behind it. Zach have also done a few projects for me in the past. They can do almost anything. I love his work. 6 stars if I could.”
