About Carolina Custom Builds, LLC

Carolina Custom Builds, LLC is an owner-led deck building and remodeling company serving homeowners in Rural Hall, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, and surrounding Piedmont Triad communities.

Meet Zachary Westmoreland

The company is owned and operated by Zachary Westmoreland, a hands-on contractor who has worked in the trades since he was 18 years old. Zachary later started his own company in his early twenties after spending years doing demanding construction work, using his own tools, and realizing he wanted to build something of his own.

Today, Zachary remains directly involved in every part of the customer experience. He is the person who speaks with homeowners, visits the property, prepares the estimate, manages the schedule, coordinates specialty trades, and works on the project.

Carolina Custom Builds is not a large company where customers are passed from a salesperson to an unfamiliar project manager. When you hire Carolina Custom Builds, you work directly with the owner.

A Hands-On Approach to Construction and Remodeling

Zachary describes himself as the owner, estimator, working contractor, and project manager.

That means the person who discusses your goals during the estimate is also the person responsible for understanding the project once construction begins.

Zachary is normally present at the jobsite and available to answer questions as they come up. He believes that direct owner involvement leads to better communication, stronger accountability, and a more personal remodeling experience.

The company works with a small, focused team and may bring in additional help depending on the size and scope of the project. When plumbing, electrical work, roofing, or another specialty trade is required, Zachary coordinates the appropriate subcontractors while remaining the homeowner’s primary point of contact.

You do not have to separately manage every person involved in the project. Carolina Custom Builds oversees the complete approved scope and works to keep the different parts of the job organized.

Custom Decks and Complete Home Remodeling

Carolina Custom Builds focuses on substantial residential construction and remodeling projects.

Our main services include:

  • Custom deck construction
  • Complete deck replacement and rebuilding
  • Kitchen remodeling
  • Bathroom remodeling
  • Home additions
  • Sunrooms
  • Screened porches
  • Fifth-season rooms

Deck construction is one of Zachary’s strongest areas of focus. Carolina Custom Builds builds custom decks using pressure-treated wood, composite decking, Trex products, and a variety of railing options.

Kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects may range from practical updates to complete gut renovations. Zachary can handle the main framing, carpentry, drywall, flooring, tile, cabinet installation, and finish work while coordinating specialty trades when needed.

Home additions, sunrooms, screened porches, and other expanded living spaces are planned around the existing home, the property, and the way the homeowner wants to use the new area.

Built Around the Homeowner

Every homeowner has different priorities.

One customer may want a large composite deck for entertaining. Another may need to replace an aging wood deck that has become difficult to maintain. A family may want to completely renovate an outdated kitchen, improve the layout of a bathroom, or create more living space without moving to another home.

Carolina Custom Builds does not use a one-size-fits-all approach.

Zachary takes time to inspect the property, understand the homeowner’s goals, and discuss the construction needed to complete the project. Customers are encouraged to share inspiration photos, sketches, plans, preferred materials, and ideas.

Many homeowners already have a general vision when they contact the company. Zachary can help turn that vision into a practical construction plan and provide recommendations on materials, finishes, layout, and project requirements.

Communication, Respect, and Coordination

Communication You Can Count On

Communication and punctuality are two of the qualities Zachary hears about most often from homeowners.

He would rather communicate too much than leave a customer uncertain about what is happening. Homeowners can reach him by phone, text message, email, or through direct conversations at the jobsite.

Zachary encourages customers to ask questions and bring up concerns throughout the project. His approach is simple. If he does not know about a concern, he cannot address it.

Construction and remodeling involve many decisions. Materials may need to be ordered, specialty trades may need to be scheduled, and existing conditions may affect the original plan. Zachary works to explain those details clearly so the homeowner understands what is happening and what comes next.

Respect for Your Home and Schedule

Deck construction and interior remodeling can affect the way a homeowner uses the property.

A kitchen or bathroom renovation can be especially disruptive because those rooms are part of everyday life. Zachary understands that homeowners want the work completed correctly without the project being unnecessarily stretched out.

Carolina Custom Builds works to organize projects efficiently, communicate about the schedule, and reduce unnecessary stress for the homeowner.

The goal is to arrive when promised, follow through on commitments, keep the customer informed, and complete the work with respect for the home and property.

Complete Project Coordination

Many remodeling projects involve more than one trade.

A kitchen may require cabinet work, flooring, drywall, plumbing, and electrical changes. A bathroom may require tile, shower construction, plumbing, lighting, and ventilation. A home addition may involve framing, roofing, electrical work, plumbing, windows, and interior finishes.

Carolina Custom Builds coordinates these parts of the approved project so homeowners have one main person responsible for communication and project management.

Zachary performs and oversees the main construction work while bringing in specialty subcontractors when their expertise is required.

This approach gives homeowners the convenience of a complete project without having to independently schedule every contractor.

Free In-Home Estimates

Every project begins with a brief phone conversation or website inquiry.

Zachary will ask about the type of project, location, general scope, and what the homeowner wants to accomplish. The next step is usually a free in-home estimate.

Photos can be helpful, but they are not enough to accurately price most construction and remodeling projects. Zachary needs to inspect the property, review existing conditions, take measurements, and understand the materials and features the homeowner wants.

Approximately 80 percent of Zachary’s written estimates can be completed within one to two business days. Larger or more complicated projects may require additional time if trade pricing, drawings, material research, or other details must be confirmed.

“Zach is great. Carolina Custom Builds is our go-to for most of our home projects. They really can do it all. Very well priced. They do the best quality work. Zach came out and installed tile in my bathroom. He uninstalled the tub, sink, and toilet to tile behind them, then replaced them without issue. This was a multiday project and he cleaned up at the end of each day and even installed the toilet back just so we can use each night while he was tiling behind it. Zach have also done a few projects for me in the past. They can do almost anything. I love his work. 6 stars if I could.”
